Tufted big toe - toe plasty

This involves surgically removing the unsightly skin/soft tissue and a small amount of bone from the toe end.  This allows remodelling of the toe end to a more natural and pleasing appearance.  Functionally, after surgery this also allows the nail to grow over the toe-end normally without growing into the toe end (distally embedding nail).

The Procedure

Mainly performed under local anaesthetic and take around 20 minutes to reshape toe end. Stitches are left in for three weeks and we will give wound and scar care advice to you. 

The procedure is uncomplicated but there are small risks such as infection, poor or slow wound-healing and very rarely, prominent scarring or toe end sensitivity (although this normally resolves after a few months).  The problem won’t recur after the surgery has been undertaken.
